Prayer request from Iraq

College exams are hard enough. Add bullying to the equation and they are even harder. But add bullying from teachers and bombs going off in your neighborhood and you are beginning to see life as a Christian college student in Mosul, Iraq. Please pray for these young men and women who are in constant danger. Pray that they will be a light wherever they go. Read more at http://www.mnnonline.org/article/18902.

Prayer request from Vietnam

Pao Thao knew her and her husband’s decision to believe in Jesus Christ would be met with resistance. As the only two Hmong in the village to follow Him so far, they knew others would be angry. When a village leader heard she had become a Christian, he called her in to be questioned by local officers. When she refused to change her mind, the officers hit her and pushed her to the ground. Please pray for Pao Thao, her husband, and Christians throughout Vietnam who face opposition and persecution because of their faith.

China-flag

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I told you what our teacher taught us in Sunday School about the Uyghur people of China? Many of them live in a region called Xinjiang in northwest China. (You say that word like “SHIN-jyang.”) There is another group of Christians who live in Xinjiang who are Han Chinese.

Because of things that have happened in the history of the Xinjiang region, many of the Uyghur people don’t trust the Han Chinese people. They don’t want to get to know them or become their friends. They think the Han Chinese are only interested in controlling the land of Xinjiang.

This makes life for Han Chinese in Xinjiang who are Christians very hard. They know that Jesus loves every person, whether Uyghur, Han Chinese, or any other…

Prayer request from South Asia

Two pastors in South Asia were waiting at a bus stop, on their way to a prayer meeting and pastor’s support meeting when a small band of men questioned them, then beat them for their faith. The men took the pastors to the police, where the pastors were arrested and put into prison until the following evening. Please pray for these men, and pray for those who attacked them to find love and forgiveness in Jesus. Read more here.

Prayer request from India

Most of the Vaddar in India work the earth every day, digging wells and building roads, but few know the One who created the earth and their hearts. Please pray that all the Vaddar hear of Jesus’ love for them and respond to Him in faith. Read more at http://www.globalprayerdigest.org/index.php/issue/day/Vaddar-Muslims-in-Haryana-/.

Modern Witnesses: 10/40 Window

Shared from my blog for kids, Exploring with Jake.

This morning in Sunday School we learned about a place called the 10/40 window. That is an area of the world where many people are focusing their prayers and their efforts to bring the light of Jesus Christ to some very spiritually dark places. It’s not just one country but a bunch of countries where people need to hear about Jesus.

According to the Joshua Project, there are 2.82 billion people living there. More people living there, than any other place on earth, have not heard about Jesus or have not learned enough about Him to understand about His love for them. Of all of the cities in the world whose people need to hear about Jesus, the top 50 are ALL in the 10/40 window. It covers about one-third of the earth’s land…

Prayer request from Egypt

World Watch Monitor 8-13-13-burnedtruc518x368

How would you feel if this were your truck—or your home? Christians in Egypt continue to need your prayers. While some areas are experiencing peace, other areas are experiencing violence at the hands of angry mobs, mobs that can form and attack with little or no provocation. Please continue to pray for the nation of Egypt. http://www.worldwatchmonitor.org/2013/08/article_2643227.html/

Be Inspired

I wanted to post something a little different today. Rather than sharing a specific prayer request from the 10/40 window, I’d love for you to meet some of the men and women serving in this area who know what it means to face danger and death for the sake of telling others about Jesus–and do it anyway. You can see their video here.

Modern Witnesses: Vietnam

A post from my blog for children, Exploring with Jake.

Nguyen Thi Lan-World Watch Monitor 2011-with caption

*If you’d like to read the first post in the Modern Witnesses series, click here.

This week, our Sunday School teacher taught us more about the country of Vietnam. We learned a little bit about Vietnam a few months ago when she told us about a brave Christian who is serving God even though it is very hard and painful. Her name is Nguyen Thi Lan, and she lives in Vietnam.

Ms. Lan is an evangelist who shares the love of Jesus with everyone she can. She used to be an official in the Communist Party, but in 2010, she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She began telling people about Him and what He was doing in her life. And fifty people decided to believe in Jesus!

This made one of the villagers, a man named Khoan, very angry. On November 13, 2011, Khoan, his son, and a gang…

Prayer request for those in Asia who cannot read

Literacy

Can you imagine never learning to read? Did you know that over two hundred and fifty million women in South Asia can’t read! I saw a video about one of these precious women. The woman was embarrassed at church, because she couldn’t read her Bible. And, she was sad, too, because she knew that reading the Bible and learning God’s Word was the best way to learn more about God.

But, when she was a little girl, her family was very poor. They didn’t have electricity or television—they didn’t even have good water to drink. She had to walk several miles to go to school, and she didn’t have nice clothes to wear. The other kids made fun of her. One day, she wasn’t able to turn in her homework because she didn’t have any paper. The teacher was so upset that he punished her in front of the whole class. She was so embarrassed she refused to go to school any more.

So, she grew up and got married, but she never learned to read or write, until a ministry came to help the people learn about God. They also taught the women how to read and write. The woman is so happy now, because she can learn more about God and memorize His Word. And, knowing God’s Word gives her peace for her life now and forever.

You can see the video here.
