Prayer request for China

Separated geographically and culturally, the victims of an earthquake in China need your prayers. More than 100,000 people in Gansu province were affected and nearly 100 were killed. Please pray that the aid being sent and distributed reaches the people who need it and that the love of God would reach the hearts of those who need to hear. Prayer request from Iran

Do you remember being 27 or 28 years old? What were your thoughts and dreams for the next year, the next six years, the next ten years? What were your plans? Did they involve being imprisoned for your faith? Ebrahim Firouzi, who is 28, and Mostafa Bordbar, who is 27, are both in prison in Iran, held on various charges relating to their Christian faith. Both men need your prayers, as do eight other Christians who have recently been sentenced to 1-6 years in prison. Read their stories at http://www.worldwatchmonitor.org/2013/07/2623421/.

Prayer request for Mali

The nation of Mali needs your prayers. The nation, which was once a generally stable nation for people of various faiths, endured attacks in April of last year that began to change all of that. These attacks left people killed and places of worship, belonging to different faiths, destroyed. Presidential elections are scheduled for next week, but the shattered country fears they will be plagued with problems and contested results. Christians in Mali are praying for peace, stability, restoration, and freedom. Will you join them? Read more at http://members.opendoorsusa.org/site/MessageViewer?em_id=66001.0&dlv_id=96121.

Prayer request from Nigeria

Bauchi girl, Northern Nigeria-World Watch Monitor edited3

She was thirteen. She was from another country. And, in Nigeria, she became a Senator’s fourth wife. It happened once, and the fear is that it could happen again because of a loophole in the Nigerian constitution. The Nigerian government claims that the legal age a woman can marry is 18. But there is a loophole, a loophole that was supposed to be deleted in a recent Senate debate. A majority had voted that it should be. But a filibuster from a Senator, the same senator who had previously married a 13-year-old girl, ultimately succeeded. The loophole remains. Please pray for the precious girls who are at risk for abuse in Nigeria. Read more at http://www.worldwatchmonitor.org/2013/07/2619643/.

Modern Witnesses: Sri Lanka

Exploring with Jake

Have you ever wanted to search for buried treasure? I have! Our Sunday School teacher told us this morning about an island named Sri Lanka where they really do have buried treasure!

Sri Lanka is an island just south of India. When you look at it on a map, you might think it looks like a pearl or a teardrop. We can use both pictures to help us remember how to pray for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka isn’t known for pearls, but it is known for having beautiful gemstones buried underground! There are mines where people can work and find rubies, emeralds, and other valuable treasures.

The country has also had its share of tears. The people who live in Sri Lanka come from many different places. Sadly, they don’t always get along with…

Prayer request for Indonesia

A 17-year-old girl in Indonesia needs your prayers. She is the first, out of her family and her village, to accept Jesus Christ as Savior. When she told her family about the new life she found, they persecuted her. She left home, but she was found by her family three months ago. They have locked her in her room as punishment—for three months! They are trying to force her to reconvert to her family’s faith by taking her to a witchdoctor. Please pray for this precious teen, and pray for her family and her village to know the love of Jesus as well. Read more at http://www.mnnonline.org/article/18765.

Urgent prayer request for India

About 5 years ago, the Christians in Orissa, India, were attacked, driven from their homes, and even killed. Homes and businesses were burned and destroyed. No one touched by the terrible violence then will ever be the same. Some have attempted to rebuild in the area. They are facing another wave of terror as militants have again attacked their homes, forcing them to flee into the forest with no provisions or supplies. Militants have blocked roads and set ambushes for anyone—including aid agencies—trying to deliver relief.

But the most frightening news of all is that 20 children are missing, unaccounted for in the chaos. Whether they are safe, injured, kidnapped, or worse is unknown.

Please pray for the hearts that are breaking now, and please pray for God to restore every heart and every family. Read more at http://www.christianfreedom.org/news/violence-returns-to-orissa-india/.

Modern Witnesses Rajasthan

Exploring with Jake

Have you ever heard of a place called Rajasthan? I hadn’t either until Sunday School this morning. Rajasthan is one of the states that make up India. It is on the northwestern side of the country and shares part of its borders with Pakistan. Part of Rajasthan is desert, which means there is a lot of sand in Rajasthan!

Rajasthan isn’t all desert, though. Most of the people there farm. Even though the ground has a lot of sand in the soil, it’s not all a big desert like you think of in the Sahara or someplace like that.

One thing that people in Rajasthan need are camels! Some of the farmers need camels to plow their land so they can plant things like wheat, barley, sugarcane, and corn.

There is something they need…

Prayer request for India and Nepal

The last weeks have brought devastating rain to areas of Nepal and northern India, who have experienced the worst rains they have seen in over 80 years. Many have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Relief services are being hindered by landslides that have blocked access roads. Please pray for all those affected, that they would receive the help that they need and that they would witness the love of Christ in the actions of those who are bringing relief to them. Prayer request for Malaysia

The controversial bill that would give one parent the right to change the religion of a minor has been withdrawn, but the issue is not dead. For ethnic Malays, the choice to become a Christian is an enormously costly one, but one that many have bravely faced. To leave the national religion is often seen as leaving behind one’s heritage and culture, though that is not the call of Christ. Christian Malays face pressure from both outside and inside their own families, and some even face torture. Please pray for the freedom of all Malays and pray that God’s Word will continue to reach hearts throughout the country. Read more at http://www.mnnonline.org/article/18730.
